Instagram’s Potential Game-Changer – ‘Flipside’ Feature Unveiled – A Peek into the Future of Personalized Social Sharing
Instagram is going to introduce a brand-new feature known as ‘flipside’. This feature lets its users to create the private space on their profile for sharing the private as well as public photos with a specific group of friends. It’s like having a secret section of Instagram just for the people you choose. The idea of ”Flipside” is similar to what people do with “finstas”, alternative Instagram accounts where you post real photos instead of the polished ones on your public profile. Some years back, a US Senator inquired Instagram about the people creating the private accounts and aid that Instagram should stop it as most of the younger generation is creating private accounts while hiding it from their parents. Now Instagram is thinking of making it simple for users to share the personal photos with small group of friends without the requirement to create a whole new account. Instagram appears to have originally been called “Your Space” but is now known as “Flipside.” According to a screenshot, Instagram describes Flipside as “a new space just for you and your friends.” Friends only let the people you select to see what you share with them.
When you swipe down on anyone’s profile to access them ‘behind the scenes’, you are going to take them to another place where the personal data of the user is saved. Instagram has now confirmed that ‘flipside’ is in the early stages and it has not been released to the public yet. The newly introduced feature comes after Instagram has introduced a way for the users to share content only with the close friend. It had a “Find Friends” feature that was originally designed for private conversations. This feature was then extended to the main channel, letting the users to share the images and videos that only a select the group of friends could view and comment on. Flipside has gone one step ahead by letting these private messages to be saved in separate section of the profile of the user.
If the reverse turns out to be true, it could change the way people use Instagram. Instead of creating a whole new account for a close friend, users can have a dedicated space in their existing profile. It can compete with other social apps for your close friends and shared private network. Instagram hasn’t revealed much about Flipside, but it looks like users will be able to customize their Flipside profile picture, name and bio separately from their public profile. Users can control who can see their “effects” and can even delete everything to start over. However, it’s important to remember that any “crumbs” shared must follow Instagram’s rules. Therefore, it is not a platform for sharing inappropriate content. Instagram hasn’t confirmed when or if Flipside will be available to everyone, but the idea is intriguing. When this happens, Instagram can become more engaging as users explore their friends’ “sides” and discover new collections of posts.
